The North Pole Pact
A one-Act School Musical for Children ages 6/7 to
10
Topic:
GLOBAL WARMING
Synopsis
(incorporating the musical numbers)
Overture.
Santa Claus appears on Bobby Weasel's prime-time show "The whole
Truth and nothing but the Truth or Else!" which is currently television's most popular program. Santa
has asked Bobby if he could come on to the show to "tell the truth" about his
concerns on "global warming". Many world leaders have been invited to
listen to Santa's proposal called THE NORTH POLE PACT which has
information about the devastation global warming is causing on the
earth. He hopes leaders will sign THE PACT to help with the reduction
and reversal of global warming.
The
flamboyant Bobby Weasel has invited four "unbiased" specialists to the show
to react to and comment on Santa's proposal. They do so but in a most
twisted fashion, making Santa look rather foolish about his ideas. Why
would Bobby Weasel secretly bribe the panel of specialists to
intentionally speak against Santa's ideas? And what nerve to do so in front of such a
huge television audience of men, women and children! With the
rather rude assistance of Bobby Weasel, the world leaders prefer the panel's arguments since it sounds much more
advantageous to them than saving the Earth. Song: "This Earth
is our Earth".
Refrain
to Song: "Christmas in Santa's Village". The children in Santa's
Village are singing and dancing as they look forward to Christmas.
The snow is falling and winter at the North Pole seems not to be
affected by the warmer climate which Santa talked about on the show. But
is it what it seems? No, it is not. Though reluctant to do so, Santa
"pulls the plug" on the snow machine which he set up to continue the
"winter" feeling the children so much enjoy at Christmas. Once this
message "comes home" and they can see that global warming is also taking
its toll in the North Pole, the children consciously decide to act.
Song: "Just for Santa Claus".
They
use the powers of the internet to communicate to children around the
world by having them sign Santa's THE NORTH POLE PACT. But does this do
any good? What "voice" do children really have in the world today?
The final scene is once again in "Santa's Village". But does the
snow fall at Christmas or does Santa have to turn on the snow machine
again? In the "happy end" perhaps the snow falls, but will it always
fall when the realities associated with "global warming" continue to
have an impact on the planet? Song: "Christmas in Santa's
Village".
Educational Purpose
THE NORTH POLE PACT is meant to promote an awareness of "global
warming." It is hoped that children performing this will be able to
discuss ways we can all do our part in saving the planet (and humanity)
from the potential dangers associated with the greenhouse effect.

dialog may be assigned by the teacher(s) and either real or imagined
names may be filled into the “blanks”. In this way the number of
children available may be kept flexible. Optionally, the role of Santa

opportunity to have discussions with members of the audience addressing
conservation and fuel efficiency.
