Are you a substitute teacher for a music class looking for an interactive lesson? Are you a classroom teacher with little musical training in search of a song with a particular theme? Or maybe you are a music teacher in need of taking a break from your usual music curriculum. The "What should I teach in Music today?" Podcast introduces educational songs and music by composer and international school music teacher Dr. Daniel Laubacher which he has successfully used in his own lessons in Bern, Vienna, Kuwait and London.

The episodes are organized as music lessons which can be played from either the internet or downloaded as an mp3 for your iPod or mp3 player. Sheet music (melodies, lyrics, guitar chords) and song texts in PDF format as needed to accompany the music lessons are readily available for FREE download and printing (see below).   In exchange it is hoped that users of this free service will send comments with feedback about the songs and / or you will consider using Magic Bubble Music educational musicals at your school.

Turning Carbon into Gold

Topic: global warming, climate change, CO2

for ages 10 to 15

The song, "Turning Carbon into Gold" is the title song from the musical Turning Carbon into Gold.  Part of each of the two verses has a "rap" (or, more likely, speech in rhythm) and then continues as sung.  There is a middle part (which makes for a good solo for someone) and a refrain which is repeated several times (including at the beginning and at the end with a harmony voice on some of the syllables).  The materials of the basic version of the musical (full script and vocal-guitar sheet music) are currently available as FREE DOWNLOADS

The song is sung by the "Darwin Group" in the story who have just been told by Dr. Ristercraft (the "Baddy" in the story) that CO2 can be converted into oxygen through the process of growing a special algae for the production of clean biofuels.  And this double function turns Carbon (CO2) into Gold (Renewable Energy).
